Default Catching up in PvP (Old veteran looking to play again)

Hey all,

First, a little bit info about me... I started playing GW at launch, for about 4 months. I wasn't much of a PvE-er, I just ran through to get all the normal skills, and later, farmed faction to get elite skills.
(yes, I have unlocked ALL skills, one of the few at the time)

I was a hardcore PvP-er. I was in many different guilds, (same group of friends, but we kept jumping from guilds to guilds), I don't know if any of you still remember, but I was going by the name of Seraph.

So, I started playing Hall, and was quite good at it... through the era of air spike build, prot monk build (until it got nerfed), smite build, spirit spam, IWAY...

I was one of the few with tiger icon in International D.
(I used to play a lot with Zao Yun, HoT people) I believe at the time, the highest fame guy was someone from HoT...

Also, I was in Zao's guild, (was an officer) but hardly GvGed, since Zao was in Asia, and most guildies were in Europe... and i was in Canada.

then, real life caught up with me, and I had to stop playing.
Now, I got more free time, and want to get back into it.

I doubt it, but does any old time-era gamers still play?
Also, can anyone tell me what's the current state of PvP?

I read about some SWAY (what's this? care to explain someone?)
how's tombs nowadays?

Basically, I want to know, is it worth starting all over? Is GvG still competitive? Hall still fun?

First, Tombs is now a PvE area. HoH is now at Heroes' Ascent. And it is rather dead.

If you want to PvP, which is now completely separated from PvE, you need to go to the Battle Isles, where you can go to 6 different arenas. 2 are vs NPCs, then there is Random Arena, Team Arena, Heroes' Ascent(new HoH), and Hero Battles (need NF or EN to do that, as you need Heroes, a new type of henchmen).

There is also Alliance Battles, where 3 groups of 4 people fight another 3 groups of 4 people, goal=get to 500 points or hold all 7 alters for 60(?) seconds (been a while). There is also Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry(JQ is dead). For those 3, you need Factions to play.

Sway is a gimmick set up, I'm not possitive what exactly it is, but PvX should have it somewhere.

PvP as a whole seems to me to be dying out, so it's really up to you if you want to get into it again. I try to stay out of PvP due to the community and all the "lol noob" insults going around in there. Just about all old builds that were good back when you were around are nerfed to pointlessness (holy crap that's actually a word!).

As for the old time gamers, it seems this is the year for people from 1+ years ago to be coming back if they left. Been seeing a ton of threads for people wanting to know what changed as they are coming back...

GvG is still undoubtedly competitive. However, over 75% of the GvG superstars GW has seen over the years have quit the game. There are no more ladder seasons, and at the end of every month there is a mini tournament that some people really enjoy. However, there is nothing of the scale of GWWC or GWFC any longer.

HA (it hasn't been called Tombs in over two years) is very different from what you remember. Whether it is fun or not depends on whom you ask.

The average skill level of PvP players is higher than in GWWC days, mainly because those who persist in this game mode have years of experience. If WM and EvIL were frozen in time and brought to GW today, they wouldn't even make it to the playoffs of a monthly tournament.

The PvP community has been abandoned by the GW CR team. Alex Weekes and Andrew Patrick have both quit. The Guild Hall is a ghost town.

Welcome back.

lol actually, I used to play a lot with WM... because I am korean. (Though I live in Canada)...

That is sad... I guess I'll try to get on, and see if any of my old friend is still alive, but I highly doubt it.

from reading forums, I guess the only way to enjoy proper PvP is through GvG now... and I don't think I'll be able to get into any competitive GvG guild anytime soon, since it's like I'm starting anew.

Surprisingly, a lot of people still call it tombs, at least if you're in an alliance with a lot of old-timers.
